Testimonials
“Sutton Defence Lawyers. To my utter shock, I was contacted by the Police and asked if I could help with their enquiries over an accusation involving historic sex offences against some infant girls. Despite my protests that I had only met the girls in question, perhaps no more than a handful of occasions in the company of their mother, with whom I had a short-lived relationship of about three months, I was not believed. The more I protested my innocence, the more guilty I appeared to be. Even the language used to describe the exchange is couched in the pejorative “he denied,” etc. My accusers, Women now in their 40s, articulate and with professional jobs, made compelling witnesses. I had been a Scoutmaster, and I was a priest and had been the local Vicar – both occupations constantly in the news over child abuse! With Stuart’s knowledge of the law and, more importantly, his knowledge of the methods of the Police Investigators and the CPS made the difference. It seemed to me that the Police and CPS are only interested in gaining a conviction rather than establishing the truth. If required, the prosecution must forward all the information gathered by them, whether they intend to use it or not – vital evidence can be contained within the unused material – it’s obvious, if the material goes against the allegations, it’s ignored! Because of the delay in forwarding such information, Stuart obtained a postponement of the trial, which gave me a vital nine months in which I was able to trace a crucial witness – my secretary from that period. Stuart continually badgered the prosecution to forward all the material they had. It seemed like there was a reluctance to forward the material. Not a stone was left unturned, and the ‘unused’ material provided important evidence which the defence team were able to use. I was declared ‘not guilty’ on all eight counts; the alternative would have been a prison sentence of 15 or more years, and at 73, I would not have seen the light of day, and it would have invalidated all of my life’s work. Without a doubt, Stuart and his team assisted in preventing a miscarriage of justice.“
“Albeit in a dark time, I am so glad to have met you and the team. I really appreciate your hard work and you should all be so proud of what you do and the significant impact you can have on people’s lives”.
“Stuart was my first point of contact in an unexpected time of shock when I was falsely accused of rape and sexual assault by an ex-partner. I called him late at night and was woken by a call very early the next morning from Stuart with legal advice. From that moment and the following years afterward Stuart has always provided quick and efficient updates and responses to any queries I had. The service he offers is above that of anything else I have ever experienced. I cannot thank Stuart, Sarah and the rest of the team at SSDL enough for helping to bring about the end of a nightmare that consumed our lives for many years. As a result of three years of hard work by Stuart and his team a Jury acquitted me after just 20 minutes of deliberation. I highly recommend Stuart and his team, if you find yourself unlucky enough to be in a situation like I was.”
“We are very fortunate to have had a very competent and professional solicitor to guide us through this, but what is just as important is you have shown us your understanding and care”.
